Dying of the Light
Dying of the Light
Dying of the Light is a concept album telling the story of a dying sun and the darkness and silence that follows. It features delicate and minimal piano melodies over layers of deeply texturized synthesizer sounds. The musical ideas for this album were conceived during fall of last year and I recorded most of the material during the new year holidays with additional vocal and instrumental parts being added through early months of 2022 months and production wrapping up in June.
With this record, I tried to develop a deeper electronic sound that focuses on moods and textures compared to the wall-of-sound approach of Eulogy for a Fallen Moon. The albums blends ideas and inspiration from different genres, from neoclassical and post-rock to downtempo and trip hop. The sound design features heavy use of noise sources and subtle modulations. The drum parts where programmed into a 808 drum machine and heavily processed during recording.
The album features a breathtaking vocal performance from San Deigo-based vocalist Anastasya Korol on the second track "Dying of the Light - Phase I". This 13-minute procedural track is the centerpiece of the album and is meant to immerses the listener in space as they imagine a sun fading away. The lyrics for this track were adapted from the Swedish sci-fi poem Aniara. The album also features Ukranian guitarist Vitaliy Tkachuk delivering the tasteful guitar lead over the closing track "Fading Radiance". This collaboration was made possible through Musiveral.
